The Life-Changing Magic of A Day for Just You
I recently wrote a post about why we all need snow days. And as I was blessed with yet another snow day this week, I thought more about what I had written. Being homebound with your family while everything around you is closed certainly gives you the opportunity to experience and appreciate the benefits I shared. As I reflected on these benefits while working on one of my projects, I began thinking about something just as important as having snow days. I thought about how important it is to have days for just you!If you’re a mom like me, you might not remember the last time you took a day for just you. No commitments, no expectations, no meal prep or laundry. Just quiet, simple, unscheduled space for you to enjoy however you desire. Can you imagine a day like this? What would it be like? Where would you go? What would you do?Maybe you would choose to participate in one of your favorite simple joys. Or maybe you would make a weekend of it (or longer) and travel to a faraway place. It doesn’t have to be fancy, what matters is that it’s time for just you.If you’re tempted to make excuses, I urge you to stop. Don’t look at this day as simply a day for you. Consider how others could benefit also. How would you show up for those you love after you’ve given yourself this retreat? How would a refreshed, renewed, rejuvenated you impact them? This has the potential to be a magical formula for receiving and giving joy.Although I sometimes resist the notion that ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder’ it almost always proves to be true for me. And it might be a theory worth testing for you, too.If you can’t remember the last time you took a day for you, from one mom to another, I’m telling you it’s time. And I’m giving you permission to experience the life-changing magic of a day for just you. Maybe all of your stress and overwhelm won’t vanish in just one day, but I’m betting it would be a start. What do you think? When will you give yourself the gift of a day for just you?To Simplicity & Joy,Lisa
