In Pursuit of Our Dreams: Reflections After Our 6-Week Cross-Country RV Trip
You may have noticed that it’s been a little quiet here on the blog the past couple of months. I recently committed to getting back to writing consistently and just about the same time that I made that commitment, I set off on a cross country adventure with my family. I had planned to write and post often during this time, but ultimately, technology and timing weren’t in sync for me so the writing and publishing fell to the wayside, which ultimately allowed me to better live out my word of the year and be more present with my family during our trip.I’ve returned from my travels and am happy to be back to writing once again. Our trip was a big one in many ways (we drove just under 8000 miles from Maine to California and back, visiting 30 states in the process) and I’m still reflecting on what a magnificent experience it was. We dream of seeing all 50 states with our kids and this trip was taken in pursuit of this dream. From seeing the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia to feeling the 115-degree temperatures in the desert of California, from bird watching in the Grand Canyon to people watching in Las Vegas, from climbing down to cliff dwellings in Colorado to climbing up stairs in Biltmore Estate in North Carolina, (and so much more in between), it was certainly a trip that impacted each of us. Beyond the variety of sites we saw over the course of five weeks on the road, I experienced moments of simplicity and moments of excess. I witnessed moments of kindness from strangers and moments of frustration from others. And so much more… I wrote pages of thoughts and observations during our travels and I'm sharing our itinerary along with excerpts from my journal from this cross-country trip soon. But what I’ll share now is this. This trip would not have been possible had I not simplified my home, my life, and my possessions. And more importantly, I would not have experienced it to the extent that I did had I not created the space to be present and receive it all. There is undoubtedly a connection between the physical and mental space in our lives. With less “stuff,” I was able to experience more. To do more living…I challenge you to consider the dreams you have pushed to the side for a later time…for a time when you have the space (literally and figuratively) to pursue them. How can you start clearing space now to realize these dreams? I’d love to hear what dreams you have and how you’ll start simplifying your home and life to create space to achieve those dreams. And if you need some guidance, please reach out to me!I wish you much joy and simplicity!Lisa
