A Simple Way to Start Simplifying

simpleWe’re nearly two weeks into the new year. We’re getting close to the point where most people give up on their New Year’s Resolutions. Are you in this boat?As I’ve shared in the past, I’m not a huge proponent of New Year’s resolutions. I do spend time reflecting and planning for the year ahead, but it’s certainly not the only time to go through this exercise. Instead, I highly recommend setting intentions ANY time of the year. So if you have yet to take steps to prepare for the upcoming year, don’t feel bad. Just choose today (or whatever day you’d like) to start living intentionally. When you make this choice to start setting some intentions, know that it doesn’t have to be complicated.   You don’t have to end up with a completely outlined, step-by-step plan etched in stone. (Of course if that approach works for you, then go for it!) All you really need to do is to start thinking. Put your mind to work. Lasting change from old habits requires a mindset shift so focusing your thoughts on what you want is one small way to get started. If your version of living intentionally includes simplifying, I’d like to suggest one small way to start taking action.Simply notice.Notice what is SIMPLE all around you.Perhaps it’s a simple vase of fresh flowers alone on a shelf. Or maybe it’s a clean and organized waiting area that helps you feel relaxed and at ease.   Maybe it’s the white space in a brochure that allows you to easily focus on the content itself.  Or maybe it’s something else completely that is simple to you.Getting started by just noticing is easy. You don’t have to create a list before you start. And you don’t have to chart out a schedule of how you’ll fit it into your day. All you have to do is be open to the idea and give yourself permission to notice.Simplifying your life is a process. I know this from my own journey and I’ve been told this numerous times by the individuals I’ve supported on their journey. And I can guarantee this…you’ll never get anywhere if you don’t start. When you’re in an overwhelming situation, getting started is the hardest part. So start small. Just start.I’d love to hear what you notice as you start your simplifying journey-send me a note! Sharing what you notice, just might help someone else get started. To Simplicity & Joy,Lisa
