21 Random Simple Things to Prepare for a Trip

prepare for trip

WhetherI’m headed out the door to speak at a conference or getting away with my familyfor a weekend road trip, I want it to be easy to pack my bags, get things inorder at home and head out for my next adventure.

This quick list of 21 random simple things I do to prepare for a trip provides me with peace of mind and confidence to get out the door to get on my way.

Out and about
  1. Get cash
  2. Fill the car with gas-so it’s ready for the trip to the airport or not on “empty” when I return home
  3. Check post office box
  4. Get snacks for travel day (and allergy safe food for my children if they’re traveling with me)
Digital prep
  1. Backup phone and devices (to iCloud and/or computer)
  2. Clean up pictures on phone to free up memory space
  3. Download movies and podcasts to my device to watch on the plane
  4. Charge devices I’m taking (including my portable chargers)
Travel logistics
  1. Reserve parking at airport, or…
  2. Book bus or shuttle to and from airport
  3. Set reminder in phone to check in to flight 24 hours before departure time
Home prep
  1. Arrange dog and house sitter
  2. Arrange for mail pickup or hold
  3. Pay bills due during and right after trip
  4. Clean the house-especially the kitchen and bathrooms-so I come home to a tidy, clean home
  5. Clean out the fridge-we get creative and have an “eat down” the week before we leave, using up everything that will go bad while we’re gone
  6. Get a meal or two worth of freezer or non-perishable groceries so we don’t have to run to the grocery store or grab fast food the day we get home
Packing prep
  1. Update allergy packs (action plan, antihistamines, epinephrine, wipes and doctor letter, if necessary)
  2. Put toiletries in travel bag two days before the trip then use the bag for my morning and evening routines the day before the trip-this gives me a chance to pack and/or purchase something I’m missing
  3. Verify prescription medicines won’t run out during the trip and refill if necessary

I hope this random list helps you prepare for your trip and get out the door and on your way more efficiently!

To Simplicity & Joy,

Lisa
