Living
As I’ve shared, my company is now Simple Joy Living…because the work we do is really about more than the organizing, it’s about the living that can be done when you simplify! One of the reasons I’ve chosen to simplify my life is so that I have the freedom to travel more…this, to me, is more living. This summer, I had the opportunity to try a new way of traveling…in an RV! For a little over 2 weeks, five of us lived in and traveled in about 200 square feet.As part of our simple living journey, we have intentionally chosen to significantly reduce the size of our home. Although we’re not planning on being full-time RVers, we were anxious to try living small as a family. It was a great learning experience for all of us and it gave me some good insights into what it’s like living in a small space. A few of these are:1. You don’t need to have a large stock of food on hand.We had nonperishables, some fresh food and water on hand before we left. As we had the chance, every 2-3 days or so, we found grocery stores and purchased food for the next few days. This form of planning as we went worked well for us!2. No matter how big or small the space you live in is, teamwork from the kids is essential. There were still beds to be made (and put away), meals to be prepared and laundry to be done. These tasks will never disappear as long as you have a place to sleep, clothes to wear and food to eat. And teamwork can make it seem less like a chore.3. When the inside space is small, the outside space gets a lot more attention! It was here that we found playgrounds, “neighbors” and some breathtaking views! There are some great places to see in this world if you’re willing to step away from the stuff and just explore.I challenge you to think about simple living being more than just having what you need and no more. Focus on the “living” instead…What can you simplify today that will enable you to live more tomorrow?Blessings,Lisa
