Don't Wait to Celebrate

celebrateThis week we celebrated Valentine’s Day. In real life and in the online world red hearts, pink tulips, smiles, hugs and kindness were shared as a symbol of love. It was a nice change from what we’ve been seeing in the world lately. And here we are today. Today is not a holiday. It’s just another day in February. Another one of the hundreds of non-holiday days that fill this year. It’s just another ordinary day…But it’s not. It’s not a holiday, but it’s still an opportunity to celebrate. It’s an opportunity to celebrate whatever you want however you choose. But will you?Not long ago, celebrating was an afterthought for me. It was something I did when the calendar told me to. And although I enjoyed celebrating when I did, I didn’t do much of it on the other ordinary days. On those days, I was typically busy just checking off the next box and focusing on what needed to get done in life. This was yet one more way that I was living life by default.Unfortunately, I know I’m not alone in my lack of celebrating. This is something that comes up often with clients and in the groups I work with. When I ask how achievements and milestones will be celebrated, I’m often met with a pause, at least initially. Then after a bit of brainstorming and exploring, we always find reasons and ways to celebrate. It’s as if we need a reminder to celebrate and enjoy the simple joys in life. We’ve become so busy doing all of the stuff we’re “supposed to do” that we’ve forgotten to stop and celebrate. Our expectations of “bigger, better, more” have led us to believe that we need big reasons to celebrate. But we don’t. We can celebrate anything anytime anywhere. Today. And Tomorrow. And the next ordinary day. What will you celebrate today? How will you celebrate?Need ideas? I’ll share an activity to try and a list of 75 Simple Joys in my next post…To Simplicity & Joy,Lisa
