8 Ways to Simplify Spring Celebrations
We’re headed into a season of celebrations, school events and family gatherings. This can be a stressful time but with a little planning ahead, you can keep things simple and joyful. Here are 8 things you might want to try:
- Envision it. Whether you’re hosting or attending, it’s important to think about how you’d like the event to go. Imagining your baby sleeping peacefully through your nephew’s baptism or your toddler happily entertaining family members at your niece’s graduation party can help you be less anxious about the event.
- Do a brain dump. Maybe you have gifts to buy, a menu to plan or a cake to order. Spend 15 minutes looking at all of the events coming up and make a list of everything you can think of that needs to get done.
- Batch your errands. Once you have this list, figure out what can be done now and what needs to wait until later. Consider what errands are close together (location & time-wise) then schedule them into your calendar.
- Keep the décor simple. You might be tempted to go all out and make your home look like the latest catalog cover, but if this causes you stress, choose to keep it simple. A few simple pieces (fresh flowers, a candle or some twigs from your yard) can make a statement. Less is more!
- Plan outfits in advance. If your event requires attire that you or your family members don’t typically wear, take 15 minutes now to see what you have. Make a list of items you need (new dress shoes, tights, etc.) and schedule them into your calendar with the rest of your errands or order them online.
- Prepare for the shots. Is your camera battery charged? Do you have room on your flash card? Get your camera and check these two things right now. If action is needed, take care of them today.
- Delegate. If the thought of tackling everything on your list is daunting, don’t be afraid to delegate. Even it doing so costs a little more money, consider the time and stress that it saves.
- Breathe. Don’t let the busyness of the season ruin the fun. Plan a time each day to sit quietly and just breathe. When you first wake up or when you lay down for bed are both good times to do this. Of course, any time throughout the day is a good time to refresh and renew your thoughts!
