2600 Less = Infinitely More

infinitelyAs I’ve shared, my family has spent the past year and a half intentionally simplifying our lives. It’s certainly been a journey - one that I would never turn back on!We’ve simplified the stuff we own and the way we spend our time. And a month ago, we marked what might be the most significant step in our journey. We closed on the sale of our house in Illinois. We are officially minus 2600 square feet of "stuff."Despite my accounting background, I’ve never approached our simplicity journey as a numbers game. But in choosing what to let go of (the stuff) in the interest of what we’d gain (freedom), we knew letting go of our large home would be a significant step on our simple living journey.Living simply for us means living with just enough. And the house we had been in for 11 ½ years was more than enough. Not only was it more than enough, it was the status quo, the default in many ways. It was where we’d been planted so it was where we stayed. We loved that house dearly, but it no longer fit in our vision of simple. We love to travel and expose our kids to the world around us. And during our travels over the years, we found a place that stole our hearts – on the coast of Maine. A place we knew we wanted to end up…someday. And by letting go of our “more than enough”, we’ve gained freedom. Freedom to seize new opportunities as they unfold. Freedom to make “someday” today and to follow our hearts to that place 1100 miles away.We are settling into our home in Maine, and wrapping up the last phase of the “major letting go." We are grateful for the freedom we’ve gained and the opportunity it will afford us to help out some of these people as we continue on our simple living journey. As we shift from having more to doing more, we look forward to the road ahead. We know that giving up 2600 square feet of stuff is creating infinite opportunities for us to do good. And those are numbers I like to think about.Where have you been settling for the status quo? What excess do you have? How can you intentionally follow your heart and turn your freedom into infinitely more? Send me a note and share!Blessings,Lisa
