Simple Living & Being Intentional - With Color
Simple living and minimalism can sometimes be associated with plainness, starkness and big empty spaces. When my family decided to embrace simple living, we never envisioned any of those things.Simple living for us, means freedom, joy and doing what we love. Since we’ve been on our journey, we’ve discovered some things that are “must haves” in our home and lives. One of these things isn’t really a thing at all…it is COLOR!There was a time before this journey, when I only bought neutral colored clothes so they coordinated well with the rest of my clothes. And I spent too many years in offices with gray walls and desks. Looking back now, I see there was a theme in my possessions and in the way I lived my life…generally, whatever choice blended in best and didn’t stand out was the one I went with.So now that I’m living simpler and more intentionally, I’m choosing color! I recently organized our books on new shelves that my husband built and I sorted them by color. It was a big change from my previous sorting methodology (by type of book then size) and I’m loving the new look!Everything about our book collection is intentional:
- We carefully chose which ones to keep
- We donated what we didn’t want to our local library, intentionally giving back to our community
- We don’t feel drained when we see a bunch of books that we “should” read
- They are all in one easy to reach spot in our house
- There is no other décor or “stuff” on the bookcase
What choices have you been making that just blend in? How can you intentionally add color AND simplicity to your home? I’d love to hear-send me a note!Blessings,Lisa
